Positive Directions Through Dance

Positive Directions Through Dance Program (PDTD): (ages 6-21) PDTD is The Dance Institute of Washington’s award-winning, year-round arts workforce development program, winner of the 2011 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award. This free program, which is based on eligibility, is designed to assist dancers in mentoring and transitioning adolescents to adulthood through Dance. The program combines quality and diverse dance training in hip-hop in addition to classical ballet technique, modern and African dance.

Weekly life skills, mentoring, workforce development and educational services are provided to ensure each child attends post-secondary education and/or job employment. The program provides each child the opportunity to perform on professional stages in addition to viewing and being trained from professional choreographers and artist. Participants also have the option to audition to merge into our junior ensemble and pre-professional programs here at The Dance Institute of Washington.
